Tom Hardy’s high-street heroics make him second favourite to be next Bond
Whenever there’s talk of casting the next James Bond, Tom Hardy is always there or thereabouts. But now that the Taboo star has heroically apprehended a suspected moped thief, bookmakers William Hill have slashed the odds on Hardy taking over from Daniel Craig to 3/1.
According to newspaper reports, Hardy leapt through gardens and scaled fences en route to capturing the alleged thief. What’s more, before carrying out a citizen’s arrest, the man so hard he’s played Charles Bronson and both Kray twins then frisked the suspect for weapons a la the country’s favourite secret agent.
Although he fell down slightly on the quip front – one rarely here’s Bond use phrases such as “I caught the c*!t! – Hardy’s South London escapade not only livened up a dull Sunday afternoon but reignited interest in the Bond betting market.
“Hardy’s chances of becoming Bond have increased given that he seems to be a real-life hero,” William Hill Joe Crilly explained, before adding that the actor’s odds have been slashed from 4/1 to 3/1.
While other candidates such as The Night Manager’s Tom Hiddleston, Grantchester’s James Norton and Poldark’s Aidan Turner have slipped down the field, The Wire’s Idris Elba remains the first favourite to become the seventh official 007.
And even if his Richmond takedown doesn’t land him the most coveted role in action film, Tom Hardy’s heroics indicate that there truly is no end to the man’s talents. After all, it’s not so long ago that he was causing yummy mummies to swoon while reading a bedtime story on Cbeebies.
