Macau: a land of two faces

Macau has been described as Asia’s answer to Las Vegas, but with gambling revenue surging to $45 billion last year (versus Nevada’s $6 billion), it is perhaps more accurate to describe Vegas as America’s answer to Macau . The tiny region on the western side of the Pearl River Delta is a land of contradictions – affluence and destitution, luxury and sleaze, economic growth and ingrained corruption. As China celebrates the Year of the Horse (associated with luck and prosperity), Macau’s casino tourism shows no signs of abating in 2014. This land of two faces stands as the undisputed casino capital of the world, but do foreign observers truly appreciate the eno...

Can gambling help your career?

Ask any professional gambler what it takes to be a winner. They might say money management, advanced analysis or psychological endurance. Perhaps they’ll credit their victories to a sharkish streak – an innate ‘killer instinct'. A bare few might even describe themselves as ‘lucky'. Now, put the same question to your professional idols (or consult the internet if Bill Gates and Richard Branson aren’t available for comment.) Don’t be surprised if you experience a touch of déjà vu. It has been argued that the tools to excel professionally - discipline, ambition, self-belief etc. – are the same qualities that help professi...

Gamzio team-up with Cashbet to offer real-money gaming

Gamzio Mobile, the mobile casino studio, has teamed-up with real-money platform developer Cashbet to launch its first joint iGaming app for Apple’s iStore. The studio announced in January that a deal had been agreed with Cashbet in the hope of entering the digital gambling market with products that work strategically alongside their existing social casino offerings. Presently, California based Gamzio has only one live free-to-play app, the social slot game Slots O’ Luck. Gamzio CEO Jason Deiboldt outlined that the company’s priorities were customer service and player support, fast and secure banking facilities as well as, crucially, exclusive gaming content. ...

Gibraltar fire disrupts online gambling

A fire in Gibraltar on Sunday wreaked havoc on the online gambling industry after cutting the territory’s main power supply. The fire was caused by a generator at Waterport Power Station which initially caught fire before exploding. William Hill, Betfred and Ladbrokes were all effected by the power cut, while thankfully no individuals were hurt in the incident. For their part, Betvictor relied on a backup generator to allow service to continue. We might be a little scarce on here today. Massive fire in Gibraltars power station. Ponzi scam lands gambler in jail

A Sussex gambler who conned private investors out of an estimated £1.3 million has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in jail. Using a technique known as a "Ponzi" scheme, 39-year-old Nicholas Peter Ford swindled investors, including a friend with a disabled child, out of fortunes. A Ponzi scheme involves taking money from investors to be part of a spread betting syndicate but then paying them back with the money given to him by other investors as opposed to any profit made. It is reported that Ford started the scam after losing his investment job. Two days after launching the scheme, Ford began gambling most of the invested cash. The victims of the sca...
