The top 5 best video slots released in 2018
It has been an awesome year for slots fans, with so many new games to enjoy from familiar game developers and new faces. With titles being released almost every week, even the most enthusiastic player had their work cut out for them!
As 2018 is coming to an end, the RightCasino team came together to decide on the top slot games released this year. These titles were selected because they displayed the very best that the game development industry has to offer – engaging gameplay, appealing visual and sound design, and exciting features.
Check out which games made the cut and a brief summary of what you can expect when you give them a spin.
Eastern Emeralds by Quickspin
Quickspin has always managed to create slot games that draw the eye and Eastern Emeralds is no different. This colourful, Asian-themed slot pulls you in with its rich visual design and its simple gameplay will appeal to even the most inexperienced players.
Built on 5 reels and 3 rows, this 20-payline slot transports us to the depths of the wilderness – a mountain range looms in the background and trees enveloped in mist surround the game screen.
Eastern Emeralds includes Multiplier Wilds, which can appear on all 5 reels and can stand in for all other symbols except the Scatter. When two or more Wilds appear on a payline, their individual multiplier values are combined, resulting in generous payouts.
The Destiny Bonus feature also adds excitement to the game. Triggered by the appearance of 3 Bonus Scatter symbols on the three middle reels, the Destiny Bonus allows the player to choose the next step.
The options include four free spins bundles, ranging from 6 spins to 15 spins. The options with more spins have lower multipliers. This means that choosing the fewer free spins carries more risk but with the potential for a bigger reward. The options with more free spins are more likely to land a win but this would be lower.
Eastern Emeralds is a beautifully made addition to the Quickspin stable and it has been great fun to return to over the course of this year.

Tut’s Twister by Yggdrasil
Egyptian-themed slots are hardly thin on the ground these days so we approached Yggdrasil’s Tut’s Twister with some scepticism. This proved completely unfounded when we discovered some exciting gameplay features and truly impressive visual design.
Tut’s Twister has 5 reels and 4 rows, with 25 paylines built into it. The eponymous Tut, a ancient, restless king, has emerged after centuries of entombed slumber and he is about to wreak havoc. The Twister feature, triggered when 2 King Tut symbols appear, will transform the angry monarch into an angry sandstorm, changing a random Wild symbol into a whole stack of Wilds and boosting multipliers.
The twister also pulls other Wilds closer in what is essentially a walking Wilds move. The sandstorm also triggered respins and the cycle continues as long as at least one Wild remains in motion.
During this chaos, players also stand to collect hieroglyphs. Every time a Wild lands on the reels, it uncovers a hieroglyph. If that matches with the one located above that particular reel, the symbol is collected. When all five hieroglyphs have been gathered, the last triggering Wild is transformed into a twister and a respin is granted by King Tut.
A whirlwind of features awaits on each Tut’s Twister spin and Yggdrasil has packed in plenty of details to keep players keen. This is the Egyptian-themed slot we didn’t know we needed in our lives!

Hugo Goal by Play N Go
In the throes of this summer’s World Cup fever (it almost came home, lads!) Play N Go released a footie-themed sequel to its Hugo collection of games. Perfect timing and a great title to boot!
Hugo Goal has three rows and three reels. With 5 paylines, it is a relatively uncomplicated-looking game but there are several bonus features to watch out for nonetheless. Symbols include the familiar faces of Hugo, Goat, Don Croco and Afskylia. When two full stacks of any character symbols appear during an unsuccessful spin, the Action Replay feature kicks in. The third reel (the one without a character stack), will respin until a winning combination is achieved.
If a spin results in two stacks of identical symbols – boots, whistles, flags, stopwatches or balls – the Free Kick feature gets going. This works in the same way as the Action Replay, respinning the last reel and giving an extra chance for a winning combination.
Should all three reels display the same symbol, the player then lines up for the Penalty Shoot-Out feature. Playing as Hugo the goalkeeper, the player has to try and save as many penalty attempts as they can. There are five to stop and each consecutive save will increase the multiplier level, going from x1 to x2, x3, x4, x5 and x10 for saving all the shots. That multiplier will then be applied to the win on the triggering spin.
While England faltered at the semi-finals, Hugo Goal is one way to get back into the football fever that swept the nation just a few months ago.

Vikings Go to Hell by Yggdrasil
We couldn’t resist including another Yggdrasil title on this list and this one is a right winner! Vikings Go To Hell is the third in a series of Viking-themed slots from this game provider and it builds on the success and the features of its predecessors. We are not aware of whether this is the last installment in the franchise but it certainly packs a punch.
The Viking characters introduced in the first two slots feature again in this slot, which is built on 5 reels and has 25 paylines. This time, the protagonists are fighting the forces of the underworld and the player gets to tag along for a wild ride.
Big win symbols can be turned into Sticky Wilds, in both the base game and the free spins feature. This Fight feature is triggered when two Scatter symbols land on the same spin and winning a fight fills that Viking character’s Rage Meter.
There is an increased chance of landing treasure chests on the fifth reel in this game, and each of these contain prizes that include coin wins, additional Wild symbols, free spins and more.
The free spins feature transports our characters to the depths of the underworld, where they take on fearsome demons. Successfully defeating these creatures will grant bonuses, which can take the shape of additional Wilds or big coin wins.
Joining these Vikings on their quest has been a riot from start to finish and Yggdrasil’s third chapter in the story is possibly their best yet!

Robin of Sherwood by Rabcat
Rabcat Gambling has brought us some unforgettable games. Castlebuilder and Dragon’s Myth immediately come to mind but they are by no means the only excellent slots from this small studio.
This year, we joined England’s most famous hero/outlaw in an adventure in Sherwood Forest, complete with medieval castle in the background. Built on a 5-reel structure with 3 rows, Robin of Sherwood has 243 ways to win and a number of game features.
Let’s start with the Wild Turning feature. This is activated randomly and is responsible for turning lower value symbols into something much more interesting. When triggered, one reel or more will be chosen at random during the base game. If there are any of the lower value symbols – A, K, Q, and J – on these selected reels, they will automatically be transformed into Wilds. This can significantly boost wins on paylines.
When three or more target symbols (the Scatters) appear, the Free Spins feature is activated with 10 free spins. On every second spin, one of the lower value symbols is removed, starting with the Jack, in what is called the Royal Clearing feature. Through this process, the last spins will only have higher value symbols, namely the characters of Little John, the Sheriff, Maid Marian and Friar Tuck. With only valuable symbols in play, free spins stand to be exceptionally lucrative for the player.
This slot brings together all the things we love to see in a game – first-rate visual storytelling, exciting game features that evolve throughout gameplay and a memorable, immersive gambling experience. Robin Hood may be an English legend but Robin of Sherwood is a hero in its own way.
