Winterberries is a rather oddly-themed, 5-reel fixed 25-pay line online slot from the relatively new online slots gurus at Yggdrasil Gaming. The theme of the game is berries – blueberries, blackberries … er … red berries – indeed lots of different kinds of berries that you’d have to be a bit of a berry expert to identify. In total, there are seven different kinds of berries available, but unfortunately none of them are Halle Berry. There are no other symbols – no scatters, wilds or bonus symbols of which to speak of.
The 25 pay lines are fixed and in play at all times. You get to choose the size of your coin from 0.01 to 2.00, which is then multiplied by 25 to obtain your stake. Once you’re happy with your wager, you hit the ‘spin’ button to send the berries tumbling. Wins must be at least three identical symbols on one of the pay lines from the left hand reel.
Wins start at 3x your coin value for three red/blackcurrants (we think – we are not berry experts), blueberries or red whortleberries (again, don’t sue us if we are wrong). The biggest winner is five ‘yellow cluster berries’ (this may not be the official name).
One nice feature is the ‘frozen berry’ feature. As soon as you hit a win, ALL of the winning berry type freeze and a free re-spin is triggered. If more of the same symbol appears on the reel, they too freeze and the reels spin again for free. This keeps going until no winning symbols are landed. Once your re-spins are up your total winnings are calculated.
If you manage to freeze at least two entire columns with the same winning berry, then all prizes are doubled. For three columns prizes are tripled, and so on all the way up to five columns.
