Wild Wild West: The Great Train Heist is a 5-reel, 10-pay line slot from those cool cowboys at NetEnt released exclusively at Betsson's range of online casinos. If you're immediately alarmed by the title of this slot, thinking it has something to do with the terrible 1999 film that starred Will Smith, Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh, then relax … it doesn't. If you've played the NetEnt slot Jack Hammer, or its sequel Jack Hammer II: Fishy Business, then this game is in the same style. The graphics are all strips from a cartoon, and here a ragamuffin gang of gun-tottin' miscreants attempt to get their hands on the contents of a bounty-carrying chuffin' train. All this info is revealed in an super-cool intro sequence.

There are four members of the gang and if you're the observant type you'll notice each member has a playing card suit attached to them. This is handy as the other symbols include all four playing card suits – diamonds, clubs, hearts and spades. The only other symbols on the reels are special symbols, which makes up for the fact that there are only ten pay lines. All ten are in play for each spin – you have no say in this matter. You can choose your coin size though (from 0.01 to 1.00) and your bet level (from one to ten). Your final bet-per-spin is your bet level multiplied by your coin size multiplied by ten. When you're ready to start sharp-shootin', hit the spin button.

Payout & bonus rounds

Payouts commence at five times your line bet for three clubs or diamonds. The jackpot in normal play is for five of the female twenty-five percent of the heist gang. Landing five of her will win you five hundred coins.

There are four types of wild symbol in this game. All four are available during free spins, but only the regular wild is available during the base game:

  • Regular (gold on purple): substitutes for all other symbols aside from the scatter and bonus symbols
  • Expanding (purple on gold): expands to fill the whole reel when it lands
  • X2 multiplier (green on pink): any win containing this wild is doubled
  • Spreading (pink on green): turns one adjacent or diagonal symbol into an additional wild

The number seven on the front of the train acts as the scatter symbol here. Land three anywhere for ten free spins, four for twenty or five for thirty. During free spins an overlay wild randomly appears on any of the first three reels on any spin and acts as the currently active wild feature.

If you land three bonus symbols anywhere on reels one, three and five, you get to play the 'pick and click' game. Here you must select one of the safes represented on each bonus symbol. You win a prize that can be anything from 5x to 50x your current line bet.

Despite the great look of this game, we can't admit to being too wild about Wild Wild West: The Train Heist. NetEnt are usually a lot more inventive than this, and this game simply has some very standard features that are commonly found in other online slots. The game suffers from only having ten pay lines too, which makes wins hard to come by. A bit of a disappointment, but that's probably only because this game fails to meet NetEnt's usual high standards.
