Viking Age Slot
Viking Age is a monster maximum 30-pay line, 5-reel slot from Betsoft. With this game you step back 1,000 years in time and head to Scandinavia to join the hordes of muscle-bound, blonde-haired, pig-tailed men (and women) as they set sail across the seas of Europe and beyond, pillaging, thieving, robbing and ransacking and genuinely having a very groovy time. Allegedly, those Norse bandits really loved their treasure, and by playing this game you may be set to uncover a few treasures of your own.
All the symbols in this game are Viking-based and as usual with a Betsoft game, if you land a winning combination you're treated to a wonderful, cinema-standard animation, and indeed this slots game is introduced by a quick but superb animated movie. You get to choose your coin size (0.02 to 0.05), the number of coins you wish to gamble with (one to five) and the number of lines you want in play (1 to 30). Your total stake is all these three values multiplied together. To win a prize, you just need to land three or more identical symbols on an active pay line from the right hand reel. A buxom Viking girl named Amma stands at the side of the screen as you play, and will happily admonish you with a quick sweep of her pony-tails if you're too slow with your actions.
Payout & bonus rounds
Payouts start at 25x your stake-per-line for three axe targets, all the way up to 1,500x for five blonde-haired chieftains.
A winged viking helmet acts as the scatter symbol, and at least three of them anywhere on the reels takes you through to the Runestone bonus game. Help the lovely Amma choose a symbol and you'll win either free spins, instant credits or access to the bonus round.
Speaking of Amma, if you land three or more of her anywhere on the reels and it's the Multiplier Free Spins round for you! Special stones that hide multipliers appear at the side of the screen, and any prizes you win during free spins are multiplied by that multiplier amount.
The final bonus game is triggered by three or more arm wrestle symbols. In this game you get to choose your Viking – Elgrim or Erick. If your champion wins the arm-wrestling contest, then you win a bicep-pummelling prize of your own.
While Viking Age looks utterly brilliant, you can see why it has never caught on as one of Betsoft's more popular slots – it's too repetitive. Once you've played all the bonus games, there's really nothing else to do. It's well worth a play though, although there are much better games from Betsoft to play.
