The Great Ming Empire Slot
The Great Ming Empire by Playtech is a 5-reel, 5-pay line online slot. If you're looking to play this merciless game in the hope of finding a Flash Gordon connection, then you're going to be disappointed. Likewise, if you're a fan of online slots that are about vases, then you're out of look too. However, if you're a student of Chinese history, then you're going to be thrilled! The Great Ming Empire is a China-themed slot based around one of the greatest empires ever to rule China – the Ming dynasty. The Mings ruled China for almost three hundred years, from 1368 until 1644, taking over from the Yuan dynasty which had been in charge since 1271. The Mings oversaw a fantastic period in the history of the Chinese lands, with the area's population virtually tripling. Unfortunately, the Mings had a habit of ignoring the common folk, who subsequently rose up and kicked the Mings out of power. As the saying goes, "all good Mings must come to an end."
The symbols used in this game are all suitably China-related, aside perhaps from playing card symbols jack through to ace. The other symbols include a junk (Chinese boat), plus whom we assume to be the emperor himself and his lady friend. The game has five lines, and all are selectable. You can also choose your coin size from 0.01 to 20.00. Your final wager is your coin size multiplied by the number of lines you have in play. When you're ready to Ming, hit the spin button.
Payout & bonus rounds
The lowest winning payout in this game is for any two identical playing card values. This will win you double your stake. Note that the pay lines pay both left-to-right and right-to-left in this game. The jackpot in normal play is for five 'Emperor's Palace' symbols. Achieving this will win you 2,000x your line bet.
The Emporer's Palace symbol doubles up as a wild symbol here, but it ONLY substitutes for the Emperor and Mrs Emperor symbols.
There are three types of scatter symbols in this game. They are all easy to recognise as they have a dragon encircling them. You need to land three or more consecutive scatters of the same kind to win through to the 'Treasure Room Bonus' game.
You get your pick of the treasures if you enter the 'Treasure Room Bonus' game. There are eight treasures on view, and you get to take home three of them. Each treasure reveals a cash prize. Note that if four scatters triggered the bonus game then your total prize is multiplied by three. If you landed five scatters, then your total prize is boosted by a factor of ten.
Never mind the Ming Empire – the Playtech Empire has been ruling the world of online slots for nearly three hundred years too, or so it seems. However, this is not one of Playtech's best. The graphics and sounds are superb, but the gameplay is a little lacking. It does help that 'both ways pay', but it doesn't help that there are only five pay lines. We're sorry to say that we're going to have to conclude that this online slot is a bit Ming-ing.
