The Big Lebowski is a new and exclusive 5-reel fixed 25 pay line slot from 888. It's based on the Coen Brothers' classic film noir comedy of the same name, which starred Jeff Bridges as the pot-smoking, bowling bum Jeffrey 'The Dude' Lebowski. The Dude gets drawn into a bizarre world of kidnap plots, nihilists and porn barons when he is mistaken for a different Jeffrey Lebowski – a wheelchair-bound tycoon with a lot of cash (although as it later transpires, not) and a hot young wife. The Dude snaps when his rug is stolen (as it "really tied the room together, man") and with the help and hinderance of his bowling buddies Walter Sobchak (a psychotic Vietnam vet played by Jon Goodman) and Donnie Kerabatsos ("shut the f*** up, Donny!") played by Steve Buscemi.

The Dude, Walter and Donny all make an appearance as symbols in this game, as do creepy pervert Jesus Quintana (John Turturro) and oddball artist and ex-wife of 'the other Lebowski' Maude Lebowski (Julianne Moore). Completing the symbols are bowling bowls marked with playing card values ten to ace. There are twenty-five possible pay lines, and all are in play at all times. You can select your bet size from 0.01 to 10.00 – your final wager is always this amount multiplied by twenty-five. When you're ready to fire that bowling ball towards those pins, press the spin button, man.

Payout & bonus rounds

Payout & bonus rounds

The lowest winning payout is 5x your line bet for three tens, or two of Walter. The jackpot in normal play is for five of The Dude (or "his dudeness" or "el duderino") at 1,000x your wager.

Each time a spin does not result in a win you are granted a 'Spare Spin'. This is a free re-spin – unfortunately there's no guarantee that your re-spin is going to result in a win either.

The Dude's crappy old car acts as the wild symbol in this game. It substitutes for all other symbols aside from the bonus symbol. If the wild appears on the central wheel it will expand to cover all three rows. This only happens if, by expanding, the wild triggers a win.

The 'Good Night, Sweet Prince' bonus game is triggered when a bonus symbol (which is a can of Donny's ashes … uh, ho … SPOILER!) appears on the central row of both reel one and reel five. You must choose one of out five cans to reveal a prize multiplier between 3x and 10x.

The Big Lebowski slot comes with a progressive jackpot that is simply awarded randomly – no special symbol combinations needs to be secured in order to land it.

We're not sure how The Dude would feel if he found his exploits had been turned into an online slots game, but he would probably sip a White Russian and take it all in his stride. This game has snippets of the movie throughout, but it just fails to capture the true spirit of The Dude. The bonus features are, like, a little underwhelming too, and there's always the chance that you'll be entering a world of cash. But, as The Dude would no doubt say, "Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, your opinion, man."
