Let's get rocking! Rockstar is the groovy, groupie-heavy, 5-reel max 30 pay-line online slot from Betsoft. The game seems to be a kind of a tie-in with the console games Guitar Hero (same font used) and Rock Band, but this might just be a 'happy' coincidence. The graphics used in the game are well up to Betsoft's usual high standards, as the main playing arena is set up like the stage at a rock concert. The symbols in the game are members of the Rockstar band (who bear more than a slight resemblance to Guns N' Roses), their groupies and other associated rockin' themes.

For each spin you can choose your coin size from 0.02 to 0.50, and your stake per line from one credit to five. You can also select as many of the 30 available lines you want in play. Your total bet is your coin size multiplied by your credits, multiplied by the number of lines. Once you're happy, crank the 'spin' guitar and away you go! To win a cash prize, you just need to land three symbols in sequence from the left hand reel on one of your active paylines. If you do win, you're treated to a quick animation in celebration.

Payout & bonus rounds

The lowest jackpot is 10x your stake per line for three 'record contract' symbols. The largest is for five of the lead singer, who wins you 500x your bet.

If you land three or more 'lead guitar' symbols on an active pay line, you go through to the 'Epic Solo' bonus round. In this round the Slash-like lead guitarist will stride on and play a solo, turning three of the symbols into cash prizes, which you then collect.

Gold discs and Platinum discs act as the wild symbols and substitute for all other symbols. Any win with a gold disc is doubled, and any with a platinum disc is multiplied by five. Get both together on a winning line and your win is multiplied ten-fold!

Land three rock ticket symbols to enter the 'Are You Ready to Rock?' round. This game does indeed play like a round of 'Guitar Hero' – hit the notes right as they cascade down at you to score points, and the more points you score, the biggest the credit prize you will obtain when the round finishes.

This game really rocked when it was first released, but the way slots have moved on since have left it about as contemporary as an S Club 7 concert. The Guitar Hero-style bonus game is still fun, but it's about time Betsoft faced the music and sent this game the same way as The Spice Girls.
