Huangdi: The Yellow Emperor is a 5-reel, fixed 25-pay line online slot from Microgaming. This is another in the long line of online slots created by Microgaming with a distinctly Chinese feel. Before you go accusing Microgaming of being a little racially insensitive, Hunagdi, the Yellow Emperor (or 'Yellow Thearch', or 'Yellow God', or 'Yellow Lord') is actually a 'real' figure (or deity) from ancient Chinese folklore. Born in 2698 BC, Huangdi is alleged to have initiated Chinese civilization, and all modern day Chinese people are considered to be descended from him. The Yellow Emperor is also credited with 'inventing' early Chinese astronomy, the Chinese calendar and cuju, which was an early Chinese form of football. He certainly packed a lot in before finally popping his clogs in 2598 BC, having reached his century of years.

Huangdi features prominently in this slots game, as do a number of other regal-looking items. Not quite so regal here are playing card values ten through to ace. This is a fixed-line slot – there are twenty-five pay lines in total and all are in play upon every spin. Your coin size is selectable though, and can be anything from 0.01 to 0.50. You can also select how many coins you want in play with each spin, from one to ten. Your final bet-per-spin is always your coin size multiplied by the number of coins selected multiplied by twenty-five. This gives you a range of wagers from 0.25 all the way up to 125.00. When you are ready to seed your own gambling destiny, hit the spin button.

Payout & bonus rounds

The biggest winning pay out that's available in this game is secured by landing five golden dragon symbols. Doing this will win you one hundred times your total bet. The lowest possible pay out is for three tens. This will win you three coins (multiplied by the number of coins you have in play).

Watch out for three-reel high symbols on reel one. If you land one that completely covers all three rows, then all other identical single symbols on the reels that are part of a winning combination will also expand to cover all rows. This can lead to some very profitable pay outs. In free spins if this happens then all wilds as well will expand. Huangdi himself is stacked on all reels, while all major (i.e non-playing card, wild or scatter) symbols are stacked on reel one only.

The 'Huangdi Logo' symbol is the wild symbol in this game. It substitutes for all other symbols aside from the scatter.

The afore-mentioned 'Golden Dragon' symbol is a scatter symbol here. Land two or more to win a prize, or three or more to trigger fifteen free spins. The wild symbol becomes a stacked symbol on reel one during free spins, and free spins can be re-triggered.

This game may sound a mite complicated, but that's not actually the case. In fact, Huangdi: The Yellow Emperor could be described as being a little too simple. It's certainly an easy game to play, and the excitement comes when you land a stacked symbol completely on reel one and you hope identical symbols appear on the other reels. This can certainly lead to some very nice wins. With excellent graphics and decent music and sound FX, in Huangdi: The Yellow Emperor it can safely be said that Microgaming have yet another winner on their hands.
