Game of Swords is a 5-reel, max 25-pay line online slots game that's been created by Genesis Gaming. With the title 'Game of Swords' you might think that this game is slightly derivative of a certain HBO-dwelling fantasy epic that's been wooing viewers with evil characters and bouncing boobs for years. Well, you couldn't be more wrong … it's actually hugely derivative of a certain HBO-dwelling fantasy epic …

There are even five 'houses' in this game, each represented by a specific colour and animal (and we have to say that the 'red lion' symbol is a real look-a-like for the logo of a Genesis Gaming rival – Leander Games). The houses are dragon (green), lion (red), eagle (gold), snake (green) and wombat … okay, ram (blue). The characters on the reels (aside from a couple of special symbols and playing card symbols ten through to ace) are all characters from the various 'houses' framed in themed shields. Thankfully there are no sarcastic, alcohol-loving dwarves or fire-breathing dragons the size of a Boeing 747.

There are twenty-five available pay lines in this slot, and all are selectable. You can also select the size of your coin, from 0.01 all the way up to 30.00. Your final line bet is the size of your coin multiplied by the number of lines that you have in play. When you're ready to see if winter is coming, hit the spin button.

Payout & bonus rounds

The lowest paying symbol here is the number ten playing card symbol, two of which will win you one coin (the same for three scatter symbols). The highest amount you can win is four hundred coins, which is achieved by landing five indentical 'character' symbols from the any of the five houses.

A crown symbol is the scatter symbol in this game. You can win up to fifty coins, depending upon how many scatters you land anywhere on the reels. If you land at least three scatters then you are awarded ten free spins. During free spins you can select a symbol – the game will then select another symbol at random. After every 'free' spin all game-selected symbols that land will be replaced by the symbol that you selected. If you land at least another two scatters on any one of your free spins you get to perform another 'symbol swap'.

The word 'wild' is the wild symbol here and simply substitutes for all other symbols aside from the scatter symbol.

Each 'house' has its own column and own special symbol. If a house symbol lands anywhere on its own reel, then you get to battle the other houses in a fight for the crown. You receive four lives and each of the other houses receives two. Choose an attack and if you are successful your opponent will lose a life, but get it wrong and you will lose one of yours. You keep battling until either you or an opponent emerges victorious. If you win then your feature win prize is multiplied by five.

This game has a couple of inventive features, so it's a shame that Genesis Gaming didn't have enough confidence to forge a title of their own instead of coming up with something so massively derivative. We feel fans of the other 'Game of …' might find this 'tribute to' a little off-putting, which is a shame as this game is a lot of fun. We look forwards to Genesis Gaming's next slot, which we believe will be full of zombies and be called 'The Strolling Dead'.
