Battleship Slot
The Battleship slot is a 5-reel, 40 pay line online slot game from IGT. This slot game is based on the famous game played by small boys over the world in which one player attempts to sink the fleet of another. It used to be played using just pen and paper, but it eventually evolved into a board game, and then an electronic version complete with sound effects. It even got made into a movie, but the less said about that the better. Everyone on earth at some stage has probably cried 'You sunk my battleship!'
The symbols in this game are the playing card values nine through to ace, and various members of your naval fleet, right up to the admiral. You can choose the number of lines you want in play (either 1, 5, 10, 20, 30 or 40) and your line bet from 0.01 to 5/00. Once you are happy, set the reels in motion and see if your luck holds out. To win, you need to land at least three identical symbols in sequence on an active pay line from the left-hand reel.
Payout & bonus rounds
Payouts start at x2 for three nines or tens, to x1,500 for five 'Battleship' symbols.
The Battleship symbol also acts as the 'Wild' symbol and substitutes for all other symbols aside from the 'Bonus' symbol. All wins containing a wild symbol are doubled.
If you land at least three Bonus symbols anywhere on the reels, you gain entry to the Victory Bonus game. You earn two bonus missiles for three symbols, three for four and four for five.
The Victory Bonus is played out in a Battleship style. There are five ships in play, and you have five automatic missiles – one targeted at each ship. You can deploy your bonus missiles yourself. When you hit 'Fire' the missiles are launched and all hits will award you free spins, multipliers and cash bonuses. You then play out your free spins with the multipliers you have amassed.
The Battleship slot has some good elements, but you can't help but think that a trick has been missed. Surely the bonus game would have been better if it was an actual scaled-down version of Battleship? The rest of the game is pretty tame, and after a few spins you really do start to get that sinking feeling.
