Arrival is a space-themed 5-reel max 30-pay line slot from Betsoft. This game opens with an awesome short animation that explains the basis of your play. A male and female marine duo protect the civilised world from potential alien threats … and find themsleves battling against the evil Zardon, who looks like an extra from the movie 'Mars Attacks'. Zardon makes an escape, but not before he manages to kidnap the female half of the space marine pairing. It's up to you, and our hero, to rescue his partner from Zardon and his army of killer robots (who all look like Eva from 'Wall-E') before she gets zapped into a black hole, or is made to sit through 'The Phantom Menace', which of course is far worse.
Confusingly, despite being the 'baddie' in this slot, it's Zardon who manages the slots controls. He is very neatly animated, and complains if you take too long to hit the 'spin' button by tapping the watch he isn't wearing. To play, you choose your coin size from 0.02 to 1,00, your bet-per-line from one to five, and the number of lines you want in play from one to all thirty. Your final wager for your spin is all three of these values multiplied together. When you're ready to crank it up to Warp Factor Nine, hit the 'spin' button.
Payout & bonus rounds
Payouts commence at 10x your line bet for three targeting symbols, and zoom all the way up to 400x your wager for five of our chisel-chinned marine hero.
There are no wilds in this game, but there are three scatter symbols:
- Raygun – land three or more raygun symbols to trigger the 'UFO Click Me' feature. Select from the UFO symbols, behind which three mystery prizes will be revealed.
- Zardon – land at least three of our green, big-brained chum and the 'Abduction Wild Reel' feature becomes available. A UFO will blast past, turn a whole reel wild and award you with a number of free spins.
- Lady Marine – three or more lady marine symbols triggers the 'Save the Girl!' bonus round. Select buttons to press to break the force field holding the lovely lady prisoner. The quicker you save her, the better the benefits. When you succeed, make sure you stick around to watch Zardon's temper tantrum as the marine makes off with his partner.
Arrival is a great-looking game from Betsoft that's been around a long time yet has never really taken off. If you're looking for a culprit for that, the leading candidate is that too-high casino edge of nearly eight percent. That's even worse than playing American roulette, which is unfortunate as this is one of Betsoft's best games. We suggest you give 'Arrival' a spin for the experience … just don't expect to win any planet-sized jackpots.
