Betsson Casino in a nutshell

Betsson are a gambling company from Sweden whom have been in business since 1963. They were founded by Bill Lindwall and Rolf Lundström as ‘Restaurang Rouletter’, and after being renamed ‘Cherry’, began to supply slot machines to restaurants in Sweden.

Cherry helped to develop the Swedish gambling giants NetEnt before buying a small gambling company called Betsson in 2003. Cherry eventually decided to adopt the Betsson name.

The Betsson casino is the flagship casino of this group, who also run BetSafe, CasinoEuro and OranjeCasino. Is Betsson a safe place to put your bets on? Read on to find out …

NOTE: UK players cannot currently play at Betsson, due to the lack of a UK Gambling Commission licence. UK players are recommended to head to Betsson’s sister site, Betsafe.

What’s the look and feel of Betsson Casino?

We approve of Betsson’s minimalist colour scheme, which is black and orange on blue-white backgrounds, but the rest of the site isn’t too ground-breaking. You do get access to all of Betsson’s gambling options from the same site though, including sports book, poker, scratch cards and bingo.

What games are available at Betsson Casino?

You’d perhaps put your bets on Betsson having lots of slots, and you’d be right. They do have both NetEnt and Microgaming on board, after all. We counted nearly two hundred in total, including slots classics (and our personal fave raves) such as Disco Spins, EggOMatic and Jurassic Park.

Table games are not as numerous, and disappointingly they seem mostly focused on roulette (five versions) and blackjack (eight versions including pontoon). The additions are baccarat, casino poker and red dog. There’s also a game called ‘Beat Me’ from Play’n GO which seems simply to be casino war.

Video poker fans get Joker Wild, Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild and All American all in single hand, double up and multi-hand varieties.

Like it live? Then you can play live blackjack and roulette here.

There’s a few ‘other games’ here. We tried NetEnt’s ‘Football Cup’, but found the over-sized goalie too tough to stick enough leathers in the old onion bag past.

The Poker at Betsson is provided via the Microgaming Poker Network.

The games at Betsson are supplied by a huge number of providers, including Microgaming, NetEnt, IGT and Leander Games. The live casino games are provided by Evolution Gaming.

Mobile device users can download an app to enable play at Betsson’s mobile casino. The app is available for iPhones, iPads and Androids. There’s a mobile-optimised version as well, which may work for Windows Phone and BlackBerry owners. The amount of games available via the mobile app is very impressive – over eighty slots, plus a neat array of table games and video poker.

What promotions are available at Betsson Casino?

Betsson covers a lot of ground – a sports book, poker room, bingo and an online casino. The bonuses and promotions we mention here are only valid at Betsson’s casino.

New customers at Betsson of course get the promise of a tasty welcome bonus. Here, the match deposit bonus is 100% up to a maximum of £100. Disappointingly, you don’t receive any free spins as part of the bonus.

Bonus T&Cs at Betsson are not transparent. In fact, we feel they qualify as opaque. We couldn’t find them on the site, so we had to ask support. Eventually we found a link at the bottom of the screen.

First up, Betsson’s bonus is ONLY available to customers in Australia, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand. There’s a minimum deposit of £/€/$10, and you have to meet wagering requirements of 35x within thirty days before you make a withdrawal.

Game weightings are involved, as you’d expect:

  • Slots, lottery games, scratch cards and ‘other’ games – 100%
  • Caribbean Stud – 50%
  • Texas Hold’em – 20%
  • Roulette, baccarat and Oasis Poker – 10%
  • Blackjack, pontoon, video poker – 5%
  • All other table games – 25%

We must say 50% for Caribbean Stud is extremely high, as all things considered and with perfect play, the house edge in this game is only 2.555%. Stud poker players may fancy this chance of a bit of poker grinding!

As far as the Betsson Casino and promotions go, that’s about your lot. They do run a series of what they call ‘Casino Treats’ though. These run daily, but from what we’re seen (ten free spins on a slot once you’ve made your deposit) we’re not exactly wetting our undercrackers about them.

You can gamble with a number of accepted currencies at Betsson, including Polish zlotys and Danish kroner.

Deposits can be made via Visa, MasterCard or Entropay cards, or via a number of alternative payment solutions, including Skrill, Neteller and ecoPayz.

There’s a €10 minimum deposit on all transactions, and all debit or credit card transactions carry a unwelcome 2.5% processing fee.

Withdrawals can only be made to Visa, Skrill, Neteller, ecoPayz, Entropay, Ukash or via bank transfer. There are no processing fees but there is a minimum withdrawal limit of €20.

We’re over the moon to report that Betsson does not enforce withdrawal limits.

The final verdict

Betsson is a bit of a mixed bag to be honest. We don’t like the fact that they are not upfront about their bonus T&Cs, even though when you find them they are perfectly reasonable. The site could do with a slight bit of a tidy up as well.

The casino does score big when it comes to its mobile offering, which has over one hundred games. Mobile channels are virtually as important (if not more so) than PC/laptop channels these days, and we always like to see a casino that takes iPhone and Android users seriously.

We’re going to leave this one up to you – why not pay Betsson a visit and tell us if you agree with our opinion?
