Here is a break down of what each casino that offers Skrill as a payment option can provide you with:
Skrill was created in the United Kingdom in 2001 as Moneybookers, a means of securely transferring money online. The company’s online payment system was launched in 2002, and within eighteen months Moneybookers had over two million users, and by 2008 the company claimed it operated in every country in the world, handling over five and half million accounts.
In 2007 Moneybookers was bought by Investcorp Technology Partners for €105 million, although they put it up for sale in March 2009 for an estimated £365 million.
In 2009 Moneybookers launched a new pre-paid MasterCard that Moneybookers customers could apply for. This was purely a pre-paid card, i.e., in order to make a purchase a card holder would have to have sufficient funds in their account to meet the purchase price, rather than expecting to receive any credit. The card could also be used at ATMs that displayed a MasterCard logo in order to retrieve cash directly from a Moneybookers account. As of 2015, the newly re-branded Skrill Pre-paid MasterCard can be accepted at 35 million outlets and almost two million ATMs.
In early 2010, the Sunday Times ranked Moneybookers as the fastest-growing company in the UK that was backed by a private equity firm. This ranking was based on profits made. The company was finally sold again in August, 2013, to CVC Capital Partners for €600 million, by which time they reported they now had a customer base approaching 25 million customers, including 120,000 accounts held by merchants.
In 2011 Moneybookers announced it was to re-brand itself as “Skrill”, which is a informal term for money. For a while the company was known as “Skrill (formerly Moneybookers)”, but has been known purely as Skrill since September 2013.
In 2014, Skrill was approved by the New Jersey Division of Gambling Enforcement as the only sanctioned digital wallet solution for legalised internet gambling in New Jersey.
Also in 2014, Skrill purchased Ukash, one of the world’s leading providers of pre-paid purchase services. This added to the non-traditional-banking function of Skrill, as they had already purchased another pre-paid card services provider, the Austrian company Paysafecard, in 2013.
Currently, Skrill sits alongside Neteller as the most trusted online payments provider for the funding of online gambling accounts.
It doesn’t cost anything to sign up for a Skrill account, and you can choose to set up your account in any of the many currencies that are available, no matter where you are from.
Once your account is set up, you can then fund your account by linking your banking details to it. You banking details are kept secure by Skrill, meaning you can shop online (and in the real world if you apply for the Skrill Pre-paid MasterCard) and keep your personal banking details secure.
As long as you have sufficient funds in your Skrill account, you can then use that account to fund any purchases you wish to make.
Sending money via your Skrill account will cost you one percent of the value sent, and is capped at €10 (or the equivalent amount of the currency used). Receiving money and uploading funds is free, although there is a fee of €2.95 for withdrawing funds.
Most aspects of using the Skrill Pre-paid MasterCard are free, although there is an annual card fee of €10, and a cash withdrawal fee when using an ATM of €1.80.
All the Skrill casinos below are legitimate and verified. You cannot use a Skrill account if you are based in the United States, Turkey, China, Malaysia or Israel. In addition, as stated in Skrill’s T&Cs you cannot send or receive payments for “unlicensed or illegal lotteries or gambling services (including without limitation the use of or participation in illegal gambling houses)”.
Many gambling sites will only allow you to make a minimum deposit of between $10 and $25 using your Skrill account. Withdrawing to a Skrill account – where available – is usually instantaneous, although there can be a waiting period of between one and three days. A few casinos may offer you a special bonus if you fund your account with them by using Skrill. At the time of writing, among the casinos that offer such a bonus are William Hill, Bet365 and Ladbrokes.
Some casinos will not allow you to use funds transferred via a Skrill account when you are attempting to meet wagering requirements for bonus cash promotions. It is always best to check the T&Cs of any bonus when you sign up for a casino offer. Most casinos now release funds to Skrill within 24 hours of withdrawal request, making it one of the most efficient eWallet solutions for online gambling.
Go and visit your preferred online casino. Select the ‘bank’ or ‘cashier’ option.
Make sure you select ‘Skrill’ as your payment option, then click the deposit ‘button’.
On the transaction screen, select the amount that you wish to deposit, and then click ‘Next’.
You’ll be shown a screen where you will need to confirm the size of your deposit. Click ‘Confirm’ to continue.
Login to your Skrill account, via the casino’s payment portal. You can fund your Skrill account in a number of ways, including directly from your bank account, via a credit or debit card, or from a number of online financial services providers.
Once you have logged into your Skrill account, the transaction will process. You will receive notification to indicate that it was successful. Click on ‘Back the Casino’ to leave your Skrill account.
Use your deposit to play your favourite casino games. Withdrawing to your Skrill account is just as easy – select the ‘Withdrawals’ section from your cashier page, and select ‘Skrill’ as the account you wish to withdraw to. Your withdrawal should be in your Skrill account within two to seven days.
