About Paysafecard

Paysafecard is an online and pre-paid card monetary transactions company that is active in 41 countries around the world, mostly in European markets. It is owned by Optimal Payments, and is based in Vienna, Austria.

The company began life in Austria in 2000, when four entrepreneurs elected to get together to develop a safe transaction system for internet-based payments. They launched it under the name of ‘Paysafecard’. The idea was that people could buy pre-paid cards from retail outlets, which they could then use to make payments over the internet. Paysafecards became available in Austria and Germany.

In 2002 the company expanded to provide Paysafecard numbers as e-vouchers as opposed to physical cards, and in 2004 they added the facility to purchase Paysafecard numbers online. Two years later the company began to expand further into Europe – Greece, Slovenia, Spain, the United Kingdom and Slovakia.

In 2009 the company obtained a MasterCard licence which would enable it to issue MasterCard-based items. It also furthered its expansion into another ten European countries, and additionally Argentina became the first nation outside of Europe to sign up to Paysafecard. A year later Paysafecard expanded even further afield – into the USA and Mexico.

In 2013 the parent company of Paysafecard – Wertkarten AG – sold Paysafecard to the eWallet provider Skrill.

By 2014 Paysafecard was now accepted in the majority of European Countries, while Peru and Uruguay had expanded Paysafecard’s reach even further. By the end of the year Paysafecard was available at over half a million sales outlets, in 41 countries and in 21 currencies.

In 2015 Optimal Payments purchased the Skrill eWallet provider for €1.1 billion. Paysafecard was involved as part of the deal, and the company now fell under the Optimal Payments banner.

Using Paysafecard

You do not have to have a Paysafecard account in order to use Paysafecard. You only need to have a Paysafecard account if you intend to use the online payment facility in order to fund your account.

If you go to the Paysafecard website you will find a page entitled ‘Sales outlet finder’. You can use this to find locations where you can find your nearest Paysafecard outlet. There should be plenty in your local area. Just enter your address, town name or postcode in the search box and click ‘Search’. Usually any retailer with a ‘PayPoint’ symbol will issue Paysafecards or Paysafecard vouchers. You can buy a Paysafecard or voucher within the value limits depending upon the currency you are using.

Your Paysafecard or voucher will contain a PIN code. When it comes to paying using your Paysafecard, you simply enter the PIN code into the appropriate box provided online by the services provider you are paying. You can use the PIN multiple times until the amount of your chosen currency you loaded your Paysafecard or voucher with is exhausted.

How to fund your casino account using Paysafecard

You can open a Paysafecard account online, but perhaps the easiest method of payment via Paysafecard is to buy a voucher code from a local retailer. There should be plenty of retailers in your local area where you can purchase Paysafecard voucher codes – newsagents in particular. Anywhere that displays a ‘PayPoint’ symbol should be able to provide you with a voucher code. You can use the ‘store finder’ at Paysafecard’s site – just enter your address or post code and you’ll be presented with a list of local Paysafecard outlets.

You can pay by cash or debit/credit card. Just ask the counter staff for a Paysafecard voucher and for your chosen amount, then hand over the money or your card. You’ll receive back a slip of paper in the form of a receipt. This contains all the information you need about your Paysafecard voucher code.

Log on to your favourite online casino and select the ‘deposit’ or ‘cashier’ option.

Select ‘Paysafecard’ as your chosen payment method, then fill in the amount you want to deposit, the PIN code from your voucher, and any bonus code you may have.

The PIN is easy to locate on your voucher – it is a sixteen digit number arranged in four groups of four like a credit card number.

If everything is successful you should receive a message confirming your deposit.

You are now free to spend your deposit on your favourite casino games. Paysafecard is a deposit-only payment method – you cannot withdraw via a Paysafecard voucher. To withdraw, you will need to set up another cashier option.
